На 07.07.2013 г. във фейсбук групата "Помощ при превод" предложиха всеки, който разполага  със съкращение и термини от различни специализирани области на превода, да ги сподели с групата. Аз се опитах да споделя медицинската си база данни - един .doc  файл от около 50 страници, но не успях да го кача. Тогава двама от участниците ми дадоха имейлите си и им изпратих всичко, което имам, събирано години наред, но неподредено - медицински, технически, бизнес, юридически и др. съкращения и терминология . Обещаха да го подредят и публикуват.

Тук публикувам файловете в първоначалния им вид, като се извинявам, че са малко така, в насипно състояние. Така и не намерих време да ги подредя и едва ли някога ще намеря. Ако някой попадне на този постинг, може свободно да го копира, сортира или използва, както намери за добре.

Lifters perform two types of lifts - the snatch and the clean and jerk. In the snatch, they lift the bar to arm's length above their head in one movement. In the clean and jerk, they lift the bar to their shoulders, stand up straight, then jerk the bar to arm's length above their head. Lifters are allowed three attempts at each lift, and their best snatch and best clean-and-jerk figures are added to determine the winners.

A non-exhaustive list of Useful Terms for the Soccer Beginner

The Beautiful Game: Term used by dedicated football fans to describe Soccer.

Football: Is the term used for soccer in Europe and other countries outside of North America.

Boots: The English term for soccer cleats.

Cleats: See above!

Pitch: Some countries use this term for the soccer field of play.

FIFA: A common acronym used for the Federation Internationale de Football Association. The world governing body for the game. Based in Switzerland.

Striker: An attacking player whose job is to finish attacking plays by scoring a goal.

Mid Fielder/Attacker: A player whose job is to play the ball forward towards the opponent's goal area to create a scoring opportunity

Ball Winner: Mid field player whose job is to break down opponents attacking play by winning the ball and passing it forward to his attacking players.

Midfielders: The players responsible for linking play between attackers and defenders.

Defender: A player whose job is to stop opponents attacking play before the ball is moved into the goal area.

Sweeper: A defensive player whose job is to roam behind the other defenders. A sweeper has no specific marking duties and is the last line of defense before the goalkeeper.

Zone Defense: A defensive system where defenders mark a designated area of the field of play instead of tracking players across the field.

Man to Man Marking: A defensive system where defenders are designated one attacking player to track continuously .

Goalkeeper: Player who is positioned between the goalposts and who can control the ball with his hands within the goal area.

Goal Kick: A goal kick is awarded to the defending team when the ball is played over the goal line by the attacking team. It can taken by any player - though normarlly the goalkeeper - from anywhere in the goal area. The ball is in play from a goal kick after it has passed out of the penalty area. Opponents must remain outside the penalty area until the ball is in play.

Narrowing the Angle: A goalkeeper advances to block an attacker and so decreases the size of the area of the goal in which the attacker can direct a shot. Also known as closing the angle.

Wingers:  Attackers who play on the wings/flanks of the field.

Offside: A player is in an offside position if he is nearer to his opponent's goal line than both the ball and the second-to-last opponent; he is not offside if he is on his half of the field or is level with the second-to-last opponent or level with the last two opponents. An indirect free kick is awarded to the opposing team to be taken from the place where the offside occurs.

Offside Trap: A technique used by defenders to put attacking players in an offside position. Defenders move quickly away from their own goal to create a situation in which attackers are in advance of the ball.

Push Up: Moving the defense out and up-field towards the offensive half of the field.

Foul: Any illegal play.

Free Kick: A kick from a stationary position that is awarded to a team when an opponent has commited foul play. There are two types of free kicks, direct and indirect.

Indirect Free Kick: A goal may not be scored from an indirect free kick. The ball must first be played by a player other than the player striking the free kick.

Direct Free Kick: A goal may be scored by the player striking the free kick.

Penalty: A penalty free kick is awarded when a foul has been committed within the penalty area in front of the goal area. A penalty is taken by one player opposed only by the goal keeper.

Goal Area: The penalty area is the lined rectangular area in front of the goal where the goalkeeper may handle the ball. Known as the 18-yard box because of its dimensions.

Penalty Spot: The marked spot, 12 yards from the goal line from which a penalty kick is taken. With the exception of the goalkeeper and the player taking the kick, all other players must be at least 10 yards from the penalty spot and outside the penalty area.

Corner Flag: A flag used to mark each of the four corners of the field.

Corner Kick: A free kick taken from the corner flag by a member of the attacking team when the ball has passed over the goal line after last touching a defensive player. Taken from the corner nearest to where the ball went out of bounds.

Obstruction: Blocking an opponent with the body. Penalized by an indirect free kick.

Dropped Ball: A method of restarting play used after an injury stops play - or after play has been stopped without the ball going out of bounds. When the referee drops the ball it must bounce once before it can be played.

Yellow Card: A yellow card held up by a referee to signal that an infringement of the rules meriting a caution has occurred.

Red Card: A s red card held up by the referee signalling that a player is being 'sent off,' - ejected from the game. A player who receives a red card cannot be replaced on the field of play. A red card is issued to a player when that player has committed a serious infraction or has been issued with two yellow cards within the same game.

Referee: The official positioned on the field of play who is in charge of the game.

Kickoff: Start of play at the beginning of each half and after a goal has been scored. The kickoff is taken from the center spot.

Center Spot: The spot marked at the center of the halfway line used for kickoffs.

Goal Line: The two boundary lines located at the ends of the field.

Goal Mouth: The area in front of the goal. Nearpost:  The goalpost nearest the ball.

Far Post: The goalpost farthest from the ball.

Touch Line: The line that defines the outer edge of the longer sides of the field of play.

Throw-In: The continuation of play after the ball has crossed the touch line. A player taking a throw in must have both feet on or behind the touch line, must maintain contact with the ground, and must use a two-handed throw made from behind the head. A goal cannot be score directly from a throw-in.

Through Pass: A pass played between two defenders in order to take them out of the play, so releasing one№s own player into free, unmarked space.

Nutmeg: Passing or pushing a ball between another player's legs.

Tackle: To take the ball away from the opponent using the feet.

Sliding Tackle: A tackle in which the defender slides along the surface of the field of play before making contact with the ball.

Shot: A kick, header, or any intended deflection of the ball toward a goal by a player attempting to score a goal.

Header: Using your head to pass or control the ball.

Give and Go: Also known as a 1-2. A player passes the ball to a teammate, who immediately one-touch passes the ball back into space for the first player to run on to.

One-Touch Pass: A pass in which the ball is played on with a player's first touch.

Cross: A lofted pass, played across the face of a goal.

Out Swinger: A kick that swerves away from the goal.

Inswinger: A kick that curves toward the goal.

Volley: Striking the ball in mid-air with either foot.

Back Heel: A ball played using the back of the foot.

Toe Poke: Use of the toe to strike the ball. To be used only in extremis. - But has been known to score goals!

Trapping the Ball: Controlling the ball with the sole of the foot . A movement similar to a trap shutting.

Back Pass: A pass that a player makes toward his own goal. This is often a defensive move to restart a new phase of play. Usually this pass is made back to the goalkeeper.

Bicycle Kick: A spectacular move in which a player throws his body in the air and with his legs moving as if pedaling a bicycle strikes the ball backward over his head.

Bending the Ball: Striking the ball with an off-center kick so that it travels in a curved path.

Dribble: Controlling the ball while running.

Dummy Run - Also known as Running into Space: A run by a player without the ball to lure defenders away from the ball carrier.

Ball Carrier: The player in posession of the ball.

Circulating (the Ball): When defensive players keep possession of the ball and pass it around and across the field of play, while advancing towards their opponents goal. This allows time to create a new phase of play.

Big Girl's Blouse: Derogative term used by English soccer fans to describe a player who is under-performing.
