MRS RENETA STOYANOVA

VARNA

DEAR MRS STOYANOVA,

With regard to the information you requested about viral hepatitis infection among hemodialysis patients, I inform you:
The activities of the dialysis units, as a structure within the medical establishment, are regulated by the statutory rules which are currently in force. The organization of HD units and their functions are described in the Regulations on the Organization of HD units. In the medical standard “Dialysis Treatment”, testing for antibodies against hepatitis C, virus performed after patients’ informed consent, is set at six months. Screening for hepatitis virus carriers will determine the number of infected patients in whom the disease is taking its course asymptomatically. This will result in limitation of further spread of this disease. In view of the active search for virus hepatitis carriers among the risk group of hemodialysis patients, the testing will not have a sporadic character and therefore the incidence of the disease will be controlled.
The questions you pose stand in the focus of attention to the Ministry of Health and our efforts are directed towards introduction of modern methods for quality assessment of the diagnostic and treatment processes.

DEPUTY MINISTER:
DR. PETKO SALCHEV
