DEAR MRS STOYANOVA,

In reply to your Application for Access to Information, according to art. 32, para 1, art. 33 and art. 34, para 2 of the Access to Public Information Act, we inform you as follows:
The National Center of Health Information (NCHI) is not only a specialized and expert body to the Ministry of Health but also a statistical body in the sense of art. 3, para 2 of the Statistics Act. In this regard, the Center pursuits the fulfillment of its responsibilities in compliance with the National Program of Statistical Research and the acts and instructions related to it (Statistics Act, Regulation of Organization of Statistical Activities of NCHI and Regional Centers of Healthcare to the Ministry of Health, and others.)

The purpose of research in the field of health statistics is collecting exhaustive information about:
• number of the health facilities and the beds in them: by type, location, subordination and specialization of the available beds;
• medical staff by specialization: higher staff (physicians and dentists), pharmaceutists and staff of secondary special education;
• some socially significant diseases: neoplasms, dermal and venereal diseases and tuberculosis – by regions, by age groups (children below 17 and adults), and as per neoplastic diseases – by gender as well;
• health facilities for protection the health of mothers and children – by location and by type (permanent or seasonal creches);
• deaths by reason of death, by gender, by place of residence of the deceased person (town, village) and at municipality level.

NCHI does not keep records on:
• the percentage of hepatitis B carriers among hemodialysis patients in this country;
• the percentage of hepatitis C carriers among hemodialysis patients in this country;
• the percentage of hepatitis B carriers among hemodialysis patients in any particular regions or hospitals;
• the percentage of hepatitis B carriers among hemodialysis patients in any particular regions or hospitals.
